International Fight Week is the UFC’s annual week-long combat sports celebration. Along with the UFC Hall of Fame is a stacked UFC 303 card. The latter’s main event will be Alex Pereira vs. Jiri Prochazka in a rematch for the former’s UFC light heavyweight title.
Pereira is a two-pision UFC champion and defeated Israel Adesanya at UFC 281 for the UFC middleweight title. The former kickboxing champion defeated Prochazka at UFC 295 to win the UFC lightweight title, becoming the fastest fighter to win titles in two pisions (736 days/7 fights). His last fight was a knockout victory against former champion Jamahal Hill, his eighth knockout victory in 12 MMA fights.
Former RIZIN light heavyweight champion Prochazka defeated Glover Teixeira in 2022 for the UFC light heavyweight title. Forced to give up the belt after suffering a shoulder injury, the Czech National Championship gold medalist lost to Pereira. In a rebound fight he decimated Aleksandar Rakic.
The title fight replaces a planned fight between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler, which was canceled after McGregor was injured just before UFC 303. Pereira vs. Prochazka 2 could have been reserved for later in the year. However, the two battle-tested warriors don’t seem to care about the location of the fight at the last minute.
“I was born a warrior. I believe in that, that I am a warrior. It’s about when the situation and things around you become like that, you have to just say yes, react to what happens,” Prochazka said in MMA time through MMA News. “Because when something happens on the street, you have to react here and now.
“That’s one thing I like about short notice. You have to react right now, right here. Show me the best you can right now. That’s it. “(Typically), there’s preparation, there’s a lot of thinking about strategy. . No, now just show me what’s best in you, right now.”
