Two hungry lightweights are ready to compete for bragging rights when William Zepeda and Giovanni Cabrera meet in California.
Zepeda (30-0) has won 26 fights by knockout, three of them in a row with the power punch. “Camaron” proved to be a major player at lightweight when he broke CompuBox records against Joseph Diaz in 2022. That was followed by knockout victories against former world title contender Mercito Gesta and Maxi Hughes.
The 28-year-old forced Hughes, a former world champion, to retire in the fourth round of their fight. It was a step in the right direction for Zepeda, who hopes to soon fight for a world title and win it.
“I have one goal and that is to be world champion and every fight brings me closer to that goal,” Zepeda said. “Cabrera’s only loss is at the hands of a reigning world champion and when two Mexican boxers enter the ring you can expect fireworks. I hope we can give the fans a great show at the Toyota Arena.”

Cabrera (22-1) showed his skills against Isaac Cruz, losing a split decision in July in which Cabrera displayed his strong chin. World-class trainer Freddie Roach trains Cabrera, who is highly ranked in the WBA and WBC rankings.
