Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Dennis Schröder is absolutely eating for the Brooklyn Nets right now.
48 hours after dropping 29 points and six assists in a victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, Schröder scored 28 points and dished out 14 assists versus the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night.
Schröder’s been on fire from three. He was 5-for-8 against the Bucks and 6-for-11 in the Denver game.
Brooklyn ran out of gas in overtime versus the Nuggets but nearly pulled off their second huge upset of a young season.
Schröder is now averaging 22.5 points and 8.3 assists through four games. He’s shooting 49.2 percent from the field and a scorching 51.7 percent from three.
Brooklyn is looking like a 2024-25 overachiever, but they’ll likely still fall short of the Play-In (they should be tanking, by the way).
With the Nets in pre-rebuild mode, any and all of their players are trade assets, Schröder included.
And if Schröder keeps producing at anywhere near this rate, it will be difficult for the Los Angeles Lakers to not consider reuniting with him before February.
Los Angeles hasn’t quite gotten the bench-scoring production out of Gabe Vincent that they envisioned, but Schröder could step in and be exactly what they hoped Vincent would be, or better.
If Schröder’s improvement from three-point territory continues, he’s easily a walking 20-point scorer. He’s obviously not going to remain at 51.7 percent from three, but even if he lands at around 40 percent, watch out.
He’s a career 34.4 percent shooter from downtown, which has been one of the main knocks on his otherwise electric offensive arsenal.
The Lakers will be monitoring Schröder closely in the coming weeks.
