The Atlanta Falcons are officially entering the Michael Penix Jr. era, and there’s a growing buzz surrounding the young quarterback. The second-year player has only started three games in his career but has already shown flashes of high-level potential. CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani believes the hype around Penix is a key reason the Falcons have earned so many primetime slots this season.
“It’s a bit surprising that the Falcons have five prime-time games this season,” Dajani wrote. “I believe that’s because of the excitement surrounding Michael Penix Jr.”
Penix enters his second season with a lot to prove, but many believe he already looks like the real deal. After the Kirk Cousins experiment didn’t work out, the Falcons are hoping Penix delivers in Year 2. Former Falcons QB Michael Vick has full confidence in Penix for year two.
Falcons wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud also believes in Penix—and he’s aiming high. Speaking with Pro Football Network, McCloud shared his belief that Penix can lead Atlanta all the way.
“Boy, I’m excited, and I’m not gonna be surprised by any of it,” McCloud said. “I’ve watched [Penix] every day for the last year at practice, and I’m just ready to see him go into an experienced year, a polished year, and see how it goes — go all the way to the Super Bowl.”
Despite the optimism, the Falcons still have room to support Penix with another wide receiver who can elevate the offense. Blogging Dirty’s Greyson Freestone believes Gabe Davis would be the perfect fit.

“However, Davis still has a lot to offer any team as a big-game performer and a deadly deep threat; two reasons the Falcons should be calling. Through his four seasons in Buffalo, Davis averaged 16.7 yards per reception and had a reception of at least 49 yards in each of those seasons, helping him to 27 touchdowns,” Freestone wrote. “The Dirty Birds should jump at the chance to sign him if he is willing to sign a one-year prove-it deal. Having an extra threat who can produce 20-plus-yard catches would be especially beneficial for this Michael Penix Jr.-led offense.”
The Falcons already have an established receiver group, but adding a deep threat like Davis would be a major boost. He wouldn’t just support Penix — he’d give the offense an entirely new dimension.
