Walter Clayton Jr. has arguably been March Madness’s biggest standout. Clayton has been putting up impressive numbers, along with guiding Florida to their first NCAA title since 2007.
Along with averaging 22.3 points, Clayton is shooting 47.4% and 43.5% from three. Even if Florida hadn’t won the title, Clayton’s performance has raised his draft stock exponentially. NCAA champion and analyst Jay Williams compared him to a Milwaukee Bucks star on ESPN’s “Get Up.”
“I could make a case that he could be the second or third pick in the NBA Draft,” Williams said. “I know Dylan Harper, I know Ace Bailey. They have a ton of talent, but the run this guy is on — the shots he makes. Combine Dame Lillard with Stephen Curry.”
Williams also clarified that Clayton might not be as good as Lillard and Curry are at their peak, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be a good NBA player.
“I’m not saying he’s going to reach the pinnacle of who those players are, but his game, to me, seems like a marriage between the two. He’s prolific offensively. I don’t know if I’ve seen a hotter player in the NCAA Tournament than Walter Clayton Jr. thus far.”
Even though Lillard was the sixth overall pick, no one thought he would become the player he became in Portland when they drafted him in 2012. Clayton could have a similar career arc. The same goes for Curry. When Golden State drafted him, he was seen as boom-or-bust after his performance for Davidson.

Needless to say, if Clayton’s career pans out to be around the level of those two, the team who drafts him will be very happy. Pending any surprises, Milwaukee likely won’t be that team.
