There’s something special about AFC East teams and quarterback Mike White.
After four years with the New York Jets organization, White signed as a free agent with the Miami Dolphins in 2023. With Skylar Thompson beating him out for the backup job behind starter Tua Tagovailoa last week, the Dolphins decided to release the traveling White who hasn’t been out of work for long.
The Buffalo Bills have agreed to terms with White on a practice squad contract, according to ESPN’s Adam SchefterThe 29-year-old general reportedly arrived in Orchard Park earlier Tuesday for a visit. The Bills kept just two quarterbacks on their initial 53-man roster, including veteran Mitch Trubisky, who is out with a knee injury every week.
Disappointing in games this summer, White completed just 46.5 percent of his passes for 179 yards in three exhibition games. He was sacked four times. In six regular-season catch-and-go games with the Dolphins, White completed 5 of 6 passes for 74 yards and a touchdown last year.
White made seven starts for the Jets, going 2-5 in those games. He threw for 2,145 yards and eight touchdowns for Gang Green while being intercepted 12 times.
The 2018 fifth-round pick has produced back-to-back 300-yard passing performances against NFC North opponents in 2022. Over a two-game span, White has completed 53 of 85 passes for 684 yards and four total touchdowns for the Jets.
Earlier in the day, the Jets and Bills completed a minor trade between them. New York sent rookie returner Brandon Codrington to Buffalo in a deal that also includes late-round draft picks in 2026.
