While most eyes on Saturday were tuned into March Madness, NBA basketball was being played in Washington between the Thunder and Wizards. During the action, a fight broke out, spilling into the crowd, that resulted in four ejections.

With 27 seconds left just before halftime, Thunder big man Jaylin Williams and Justin Champagnie began shoving each other after Washington scored. Williams’ teammate Ajay Mitchell saw this and walked over to Champagnie, which resulted in the Wizard pushing Mitchell in the face, escalating the issue.

Thunder-Wizards brawl video

With 27 seconds left in the first half, a shoving battle between OKC’s Jaylin Williams and Washington’s Justin Champagnie began the scuffle. 

Two other members of the Thunder were also largely involved in the brawl: Ajay Mitchell and Cason Wallace. All four of these players were ejected, with further suspensions and fines still pending.

Four players were ejected following the brawl. 

  • Thunder F Jaylin Williams
  • Thunder G Cason Wallace
  • Thunder G Ajay Mitchell
  • Wizards F Justin Champagnie

While numerous members of each team spilled into the stands during the brawl, four players were ejected from Saturday’s game.

For the Thunder, Jaylin Williams, Cason Wallace and Ajay Mitchell all had their nights ended early due to the scuffle. Washington’s Justin Champagnie was the only Wizard ejected.

Will there be suspensions?

While suspension periods are still in the air, the NBA will look into this scuffle to determine if suspensions will be in play for these four athletes.

According to NBA protocols, a fine not exceeding $50,000 and/or suspension may be given to the players under commissioner Adam Silver’s discretion.
