Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 2024-25 NBA season has been right near the top of the very best campaigns that the Milwaukee Bucks superstar has ever had. Unfortunately for him, the strong year is destined to get lost in the shuffle of NBA history.
There are a lot of other years where one would look at the numbers of the Greek Freak and peg him as the strong MVP favorite.
Antetokounmpo is averaging 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 0.9 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game. The dominant interior force is leading the league in categories like field goals made per game, two-pointers made per game, and free throw attempts.
The Bucks have managed to stay afloat too, around the middle of the Eastern Conference, throughout the majority of this NBA season. Given the underwhelming supporting cast around Antetokounmpo, that should be attributed as a massive credit to him.
Despite all of these stellar accomplishments, Antetokounmpo firmly finds himself third, yet again, in the latest KIA NBA MVP Ladder. The title of the most recent edition even described this year’s push for the MVP as a ‘two-man race.’

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic have both shined so brightly in 2024-25 that it has left Antetokounmpo on the backburner all year.
Gilgeous-Alexander has enjoyed a historic scoring campaign coupled with an incredible overall season for his team. Jokic, meanwhile, is set to become the only player in NBA history to finish top three in points, rebounds, and assists per game in one campaign.
As a bonus, the Denver Nuggets superstar is also tied for second in the league in steals per game.
Giannis can drop the first 35-point, 15-plus rebound, 20-assist game in NBA history. People will be in awe of it in the moment. Unfortunately for him, the acclaim will come in the moment, but after that, this stellar campaign will quickly be lost to league history.
