The Memphis Grizzlies continue to make roster changes as the NBA season quickly approaches.
Memphis has continued to fill its roster with talented guards over the past year. As the team enters the upcoming season with a deep backline, that translates into a Longtime veteran waived as training camp looms.
“Breaking News: Memphis Grizzlies waive former NBA MVP Derrick Rose,” Shams Charania of The Athletic reported Monday.
The veteran was selected first overall in the 2008 NBA draft. After being voted MVP in 2010-11, the point guard dealt with a terrible knee injury in 2012 that ultimately derailed his career.
Rose signed a two-year deal with the Grizzlies last season as Memphis sought reassurance following Ja Morant’s suspension. However, the 35-year-old only played 24 games with the team during his time with the Western Conference team.
In those 24 games, the Memphis product averaged eight points, 3.3 assists and 1.9 rebounds while shooting 46.1 percent from the floor and 36.6 percent from three-point range.
The 15-year-old brought experience and leadership to the team during his limited minutes of play. Off the court, Rose mentored many of the Grizzlies’ younger players.
Memphis now enters next season with a mix of young players and talented veterans on the back end.
