Harry Potter Star Matthew Lewis says he might be interested in appearing in the upcoming Max TV reboot if asked.
The actor, who played Neville Longbottom in the eight Harry Potter movies, said PEOPLE “He’s in no rush to get back into the world,” but he would certainly “consider it.”
“The reason I got this job was because I have a very short attention span,” Lewis said while at the Harry Potter store in New York. “I am very, very poor at maintaining anything for a long period of time. I have had many hobbies and passions over the years. I still haven’t made a single one. I fall madly in love with things and almost immediately forget them.”
The new Harry Potter The TV series plans to air for “10 consecutive years” and will feature the stories from all seven of JK Rowling’s books. Lewis admits that he is eager to see what the showrunners will do with the series, currently scheduled for 2026.
He adds that if he was approached to take on a role in the series, he’s not quite sure what he would do.
“It’s not something I’m considering or want to do, but I wouldn’t look down on it,” he says. “I’d be really interested to see if it was Neville as an adult – a completely different vibe. That could be interesting. “I would certainly look at it and consider it.”
Lewis says his favorite thing about acting is that it’s constantly changing, so he never has to “stick to one thing.”
“I’ve been a nurse, I’ve been a police officer, I’ve been a soldier, I’ve been a magician, I’ve been all these different things,” he says. “I never know what’s next and I love that.”
While we’re not sure if Neville will appear in the new series or not, we do know that Daniel Radcliffe is not interested in returning.
The original Harry Potter himself said in July 2023 that he did not want to participate in the new series.
“I’m definitely not looking for it in any way,” he said, adding that the show is a “new beginning” intended for a completely new cast.
“But I wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world and I’m very excited for them to pass that torch,” he added of the show. “But I don’t think it’s necessary for me to physically approve it.”
