Xbox owners will be able to join PC and PS5 players in spreading democracy starting August 26 when Helldivers 2 lands on the platform. Arrowhead Game Studios shared the news via a special live stream, confirming that the PlayStation-published game is breaking the console exclusivity barrier at last.
The co-op shooter sold like hotcakes upon its initial release back in 2024, with its explosive combat and sardonic themes immediately catching the attention of millions. More notably, the game was released on PC via Steam as well, where it managed to garner a loyal playerbase that’s still going strong a year later. Making it available on another platform is a clever move on Sony’s part, as it generates buzz around the game once again while bolstering its player base even further.
Speaking to Xbox Wire, the game’s director, Mikael Eriksson, had this to say: “We know gamers have been asking for this for some time and we are so excited to bring more Helldivers into our game. We have so much more in store for the future months and years – and the more players we have the more stories we can tell! The fight for Super Earth has only just begun.”
Xbox players will be pleased to know that Helldivers 2 supports crossplay across all platforms. This means you can now team with friends on PC and PS5.
As for pricing details, the game’s Standard Edition costs $39.99, while the Deluxe or Super Citizen Edition comes in at $59.99 with a few added bells and whistles.
Coincidentally, Helldivers 2 arrives on Xbox on the same day as Gears of War: Reloaded’s release on PlayStation 5. It’s almost as if the two platforms are trading beloved third-person shooters. Whether this will lead to Sony opening the floodgates for PlayStation exclusives on Xbox, only time will tell.
