The Charlotte Hornets have remained active throughout the offseason. Following the hiring of Charles Lee, the team continues to add talented players to the first-year head coach’s roster.
The Hornets enter the season with high hopes that the organization can finally move away from the mediocrity the team has struggled with for years. As the team continued to build a well-balanced rotation of young players and seasoned veterans, Charlotte made a move to bring in a A former first-round pick will join the group.
“Free agent center Harry Giles has agreed to a one-year deal with the Charlotte Hornets,” Shams Charania of The Athletic reported Sunday. “The Duke alumnus and North Carolina native is returning home for a chance to compete for a roster spot with the Hornets.”
Giles was selected with the 20th overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft by the Portland Trail Blazers before being traded to the Sacramento Kings in a draft night deal.
The forward was selected in the first round with high expectations given his untapped potential. Unfortunately, injuries derailed Giles’ career before it even began.
Having missed his rookie season, the versatile player made his debut the following year in 2018. In 165 career games, the ACC product averaged 5.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists.
Now, the 26-year-old gets another chance with the Hornets as the team looks to bolster the team’s frontcourt depth.
