With its victory return at the Maracaná in 2021, Argentina tied with Uruguay as the two countries that have won the most Copa América titles.

The two teams from the Río de la Plata have been crowned champions 15 times each and, in 2024, they will seek a new trophy in the United States.

Lionel Messi is expected to be the captain of the team seeking to defend its continental prize. After years of final heartbreak, including back-to-back years in 2015 and 2016, Messi finally tasted Copa America glory three years ago in the most famous stadium of his old rivals, Brazil. A year later, they won the World Cup for the first time since the days of Diego Maradona, cementing Messi’s place in the pantheon of history’s greatest players.

The defending champions will begin the tournament with the opening match against Canada in Atlanta, with further Group A matches against Peru and Chile. They are, as always, one of the clear favorites to go to the end.

Below is a review of all of Argentina’s Copa América titles, including those won during the tournament’s previous era as the South American Championship.

Argentina has won the Copa América 15 times. His titles came in 1921, 1925, 1927, 1929, 1937, 1941, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1955, 1957, 1959, 1991, 1993 and 2021.

It should be noted that the most recent three of those victories came with the tournament in its current form, while the first 12 were when the competition was called the South American Championship.

Of its 15 titles, six were in local tournaments (1921, 1925, 1929, 1937, 1946 and 1959), while Chile is the other country in which Argentina has celebrated most frequently: it won there in 1941, 1945, 1955 and 1991.

In addition, they have won twice in Peru and Ecuador, and the most recent (2021) was in Brazil.
