Two warriors step up and take over International Fight Week as Alex Pereira defends the UFC light heavyweight title in a rematch against Jiri Prochazka at UFC 303.
The fight replaces Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler, a fight that has been two years in the making. McGregor had to withdraw from the fight after suffering an injury during training. It is unknown when the two will face each other.
Pereira is a former kickboxing champion who is 7-1 since joining the UFC in 2021. “Poatan” defeated Israel Adesanya at UFC 281 to become the UFC middleweight champion. After losing the belt in a rematch, the Brazilian moved up in weight and defeated Prochazka at UFC 295 for the light heavyweight title. The win resulted in a UFC record for the shortest time and fewest fights (736 days/7 fights) to win titles in two pisions.
Prochazka, a former RIZIN light heavyweight champion, has a 4-1 record in the UFC. He beat Glover Teixeira in 2022 for the UFC light heavyweight title, but was forced to relinquish it after suffering a shoulder injury. After losing to Pereira, the Czech National Championships Muay Thai gold medalist decimated Aleksandar Rakic in a comeback fight.
UFC 303 was going to break records before McGregor’s retirement. Pereira and Prochazka stepped in to save the day. Pereira is seeking his fourth victory since July 2023, while Prochazka is ready to claim gold again. Both fierce warriors will give it their all in this light heavyweight showdown.
