How to check your grades in Google Classroom from a Windows computer, Mac, or Chromebook

The operating systems of the previous three are very different. Yes, a Windows computer can do almost anything a Mac can, just in a different way. Chromebooks are far inferior in this sense to their design.

But it does not matter. Because Google Classroom, like any other part of the Google ecosystem, is browser-based. And no, it doesn’t have to be Google Chrome.

There are other ways to view your grades using a desktop browser. For example, you can see your grades summarized best on the Coursework page. Here’s how to access it.

1. On Classroom.google.com, select the class in question.
2. Then, select Classwork.
   
3. Click View your work.
   
4. You can also access grading details by clicking view assignment.
   

You can also access grades from the Stream page.

How to check your grades in Google Classroom from an iPhone/iPad

With mobile devices, things are a little different. Although you can use your iOS browser anyway, using the native Google Classroom app is much easier. Here’s how to get the Google Classroom app for your iOS device.

1. Start by navigating to the App Store on your iOS device, then go to the bottom right corner of the screen and tap Search.
   
2. In the search bar, type google classroom.
   
3. Select Get, authenticate your ID and the app will download and install.
   

Once the app is installed, it’s time to check your ratings. Here’s how to do it.

1. Tap Classroom, designated by a green chalkboard icon.
   
2. From here, go to Classwork.
   
3. In the top right corner, select Your Work, represented by a clipboard-like icon.

5. If you want to see more details about your rating, tap the overall rating.

Please note that your teacher may not share overall grades for a particular classroom. In this case, he will not see the overall rating. The only way to avoid this would be to ask your teacher to share the grade information.

How to check your grades in Google Classroom from an Android device

Whether you have an Android phone or tablet, the Google Classroom app works the same way. To begin, you will need to download the application in question. Here’s how to do it.

1. Open the Google Play app from your device’s home screen.
   
2. You will notice the search bar immediately. Use it to find the Google Classroom app.
   
3. To download and install the app, select Install and wait until everything is done.

Set up a grading system

There are two grading system options in Google Classroom, not including No Overall Grading. You can choose between Total Points and Weighted by Category. For either one, grades will be automatically calculated for you.

Google Classroom also allows you to organize your classroom into three grade categories: essays, tests, and assignments. Although categories are available with total points and without an overall rating, they are required for Weighted by Category.

Please note that selecting a rating system can only be done in the web browser version.

1. Go to classroom.google.com
2. Navigate to a class or create one.
   
3. Inside a class, go to Settings.
   
4. Navigate to Overall Rating Calculation.
   
5. Select one of the three options, No Overall Rating, Total Points, and Weighted by Category.
   
6. You can click Show to make the overall grade visible to class participants. Of course, with the No Overall Rating option, this option does not exist.
   
7. To finish, click Save.

No overall rating

The No Overall Grade system is quite simple: grades are not calculated and students cannot see them.

Total points

The total points system is the average rating system. The total points earned by a student are rounded and pided by the total possible points. If you choose to do so, you can allow students to see their average grades with this system.

Weighted by category

This system adds the scores of the categories. It is the simpler of the two rating systems. If you choose to do so, you can allow students to see their overall grades.

Give feedback on Google Classroom assignments

You can easily give feedback to your students on their assignments. Simply open your work in Google Classroom, highlight the passage, and click Add a Comment. It works much like physically adding comments to your students’ work. Only better and softer.

Grade and return assignments in Google Classroom

You can grade assignments in Google Classroom in numerical grades. This is the easiest way to grade your students. It is also the only way to calculate grades. The other thing you can do is leave comments based on comments. Of course, assignments can be returned without grades.

This can be done from the Classroom grading tool on the Student Work page, as well as from the Grades page. Here’s how to do it.

1. Go to classroom.google.com.
   
2. Select a class you want to grade/return work on and then go to Grades.
   
3. If you want to grade an assignment, enter a grade in the appropriate box.
   
4. If you want to return a task, select More, then Return and confirm.
   

Frequently asked questions

Can students see their grades in Google Classroom?

Yes, if the teacher allows it. For total point and category weighted grades, there is a Show option that the teacher can turn on or off. Naturally, if the option is activated, classroom attendees will be able to see their overall grades. Of course, if No Overall Grade is selected, no grade will be calculated and students will not see any grade.

How do I download grades to Google Sheets?

The Google ecosystem has made Google features within that ecosystem very convenient. Since both Google Classroom and Google Sheets are within it, Google allows you to easily download grades to a Google Sheets document.

To do this, go to Classroom.google.com and select the class in question. Then, go to Coursework and select View Question. Then, in the top right corner of the screen, go to Settings, followed by Copy all grades to Google Sheets. A spreadsheet will automatically be created in your Google Drive folder.

What can teachers see in Google Classroom?

As a host, everything. They can see which students are in their class, who hasn’t turned in their assignments, what assignments have been graded, the grades. Google Classroom hosts can also edit various settings, choose grading systems, add new students to classes, remove students from classes, etc.

Can my teacher see me in Google Classroom?

Although teachers have a lot of control over their classrooms, they technically can’t see you on the screen.
