Playing a team game like Overwatch is best with friends or guildmates. However, most of the time you end up entering Pickup Groups (PUGs) with a group of anonymous users. In these cases, keeping your Overwatch profile private may be a good idea.
It allows you to play the game the way you want without having roles imposed on you and gives you the opportunity to avoid the drama of the game in general. In this article. We’ll show you how to make your Overwatch profile private and keep your stats hidden from view.
Why would I want to keep my profile private?
The game has changed a lot since it first came out in 2016. For the first few months, players got a feel for the gameplay and most were allowed to play how they wanted. Today, the environment is much more aggressive, to say the least.
If you want casual games where you can play however you want, stick with Quick Play mode. But if you enter Competitive mode, expect other players to tell you that need to play this role or that. Playing with a hidden profile is a good way to avoid this.
Make your Overwatch profile private
Your Overwatch stats are private by default. It used to be public automatically, but that was changed in a patch a few years ago. If you somehow discover that your profile has become public, you can change the settings by following these steps:
- Once you have logged into the game, select Options from the start menu.
- From the top menu, choose the Social tab.
- Look for visibility of the professional profile.
- By clicking the right or left arrows on the menu, you can change it from Public, Private, or Friends Only.
- Once you have changed the visibility settings, you can exit the menu. The changes will be saved automatically.
What exactly is in the professional profile?
Now that you know how to hide or show your profile, you may want to familiarize yourself with what exactly that profile displays. This will allow you to decide whether you want to make your profile private or not in the first place.
The career profile is pided into four tabs: Overview, Statistics, Achievements, and Player Icon. No matter which tab is open, your player name, level, and experience bar will be displayed. Along with the information above, the current and high season competitive ranking will also be displayed, along with games won and time played.
The other data that will be displayed when clicking on a particular tab is as follows:
A. Overview tab
- Eliminations: Shows the highest number of opponent eliminations you have in a game. This will also show the average and total number of deletions.
- Finishing Blows: Shows the most times you’ve landed the finishing blow, along with an average and total.
- Target Eliminations – Shows the highest number of objective eliminations in a game, also has averages and totals.
- Target Time: Shows the longest time you spent on a target, along with averages and totals.
- Damage Dealt: Shows the most damage dealt to all enemies in a single game, also with averages and totals.
- Healing Done: This will show the most healing you’ve done on all teammates in a single game, and also shows averages and totals.
- Burning Time: This will show the longest time the burning meter has been full, along with an average and total time.
- Solo Kills – Shows the most unassisted kills in a single game, along with averages and totals.
- Hero Comparison Chart – Displays each hero along with a bar showing inpidual stats that can be used to compare them. The data currently displayed can be changed by clicking the drop-down menu. Some of the options include time played, win percentage, kill streaks, kills and damage, among others.
B. Statistics – This provides detailed statistical information about each hero the user has played as. The displayed data can be switched between Competitive, Quick Play or vs AI modes. Each hero has certain data that is limited to that hero only, so that information will only be found in this tab. Game mode and hero information can be chosen via a drop-down menu.
C. Achievements – This tab will present all the achievements that the player has obtained. They are pided into General, Defense, Offensive, Support, Tank, Maps and Special. Each achievement type can be viewed by switching to the appropriate category in the dropdown menu.
D. Player Icons – This shows the available icons that a player can use. New players start with two, icons can be earned by unlocking them from a loot box.
Why so serious?
Overwatch is a very fun game as long as you don’t take it too seriously. But, as with any game with a competitive mode, you will eventually run into someone who has it. Knowing how to make your Overwatch profile private is a good way to prevent your stats from being used against you. At the very least, it warns you about people who may be toxic to play with. On the other hand, you can limit yourself to quick playback.
