The ability to set reminders using Facebook Messenger definitely falls into the category of useful Facebook features. Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, Facebook decided to remove the Messenger feature. As frustrating as it may be for loyal users, there are still ways to set reminders for everyone you want to keep up to date on upcoming events.
The reminder feature allowed you to set an event reminder which is then automatically sent to all members of a given group.
Since we hope the option returns one day, let’s go over the instructions on how to set a reminder in Messenger so it’s here when you need it.
Set reminders with Facebook Messenger

The reminder feature in the Facebook Messenger app was very useful and easy to use. If you are lucky enough to still have the feature, follow these instructions:
- Open Facebook Messenger.
- Select a conversation that includes the group you want to remember.
- Tap the ‘+’ icon next to the message text box.
- Select ‘Reminders’ from the pop-up menu. It looks like a bell.
- Select ‘Create a reminder’.
- Enter a title, time, date, and an optional location.
- Click or tap ‘Create’.
The Facebook Messenger reminder is now set. You can modify it later if you need to and Facebook will automatically update it for all users. When the time comes, Facebook will send a message to all members of the group to attend the conversation.
Delete reminders with Facebook Messenger

If an event is canceled or changed beyond recognition, it’s easy to delete reminders with Facebook Messenger.
- Open Facebook Messenger.
- Go to the group conversation that contains the reminder and tap the reminder.
- Select ‘Delete’.
That’s all!
See upcoming reminders and events on Facebook
If you need to prepare for an event or have forgotten the details, you can search for the reminder. Although there’s no way to set a reminder on your desktop Messenger, you can review your events and reminders there.
- Navigate to your Facebook home page.
- Select Events from the left menu.
- You will see past and future events listed on the Events page.
- Select one to add a note or modify it.

Creating an event

Well, the option to create a reminder for your favorite Facebook group is gone, but there are still features in the app that allow you to keep everyone up to date on upcoming events.
To create a new event, follow these steps:
- Whether you’re on a smartphone or using a web browser, navigate to ‘Events‘ eyelash. – Located in the left menu bar in a browser or using the three horizontal line menu in a smartphone app.
- Tap the option to “Create” either “Create an event.”
- Choose the option for a “Private“, “Cluster,” either “Public” event
- Enter the title, date, time, location and add more information if you want
- Click on “Create” when finished.

Other interesting Facebook Messenger tricks
Facebook Messenger is a neat little app that has some tricks up its sleeve that aren’t so well known. These are just a few of these Facebook Messenger tricks.
Facebook Snapchat (features)

Facebook Messenger has a Snapchat-style image feature that lets you take a photo and then add emoticons, text, or graphics to an image before sending it.
Open a conversation with the person you want to send the image to, grab the image, swipe up, and add fun filters to your heart’s content. Send it when you’re done.
You can also add filters and fun images, like bunny ears, while you’re in a Facebook video chat. Simply tap the smiley icon at the bottom right to get started.
Facebook Messenger Football
Do you want to play Keepy Up with your friends? Send them a soccer ball emoji and tap it once they receive it. Keep hitting the ball to keep it in the air. The more you keep doing it, the harder it will become.
Video conference with Facebook Messenger
Video calls are nothing new, but did you know you can video chat with groups? Update Facebook Messenger to the latest version, open a group conversation, and tap the phone icon in the blue bar at the top. The video call will start in a couple of seconds.
Share Dropbox files on Facebook Messenger
If you want to quickly share work, an image, or something else, you can use Facebook Messenger to do so. As long as you have Dropbox installed on your device, all you need to do is start a conversation with the person you want to share a file with. Then tap More and tap Open next to Dropbox. Browse your files and select the one you want to share. Dropbox is especially suitable for very large files that are difficult to share directly via Facebook Messenger.
Some file types require the recipient to also have Dropbox installed and open, but images, videos, and GIFs do not.
Facebook Messenger Basketball Game
If you and a friend have a few minutes to kill but don’t know what to do, you can play a quick game of basketball while you wait. Send a basketball emoji to the other person, then tap the ball you sent to get started. Slide the ball towards the hoop. Put it in to score. That’s right, you can play basketball on Facebook Messenger, as surprising as it may seem!
Save boarding passes on Facebook Messenger
This last tip is possibly one of the most useful Facebook Messenger tricks if you travel frequently. Some airlines will allow you to use Facebook Messenger to store boarding passes and receive flight information updates. For example, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines uses it and I assume other airlines offer similar services using Facebook Messenger.
Select the option when booking, provide your Facebook details and the airline will send you a link via Facebook Messenger. This is very convenient if you are a frequent traveler and a frequent Facebook Messenger user.
