A rising super middleweight star looks to continue his rise in the pision against someone known for causing problems for fighters, as Christian Mbilli takes on Sergiy Derevyanchenko.
Mbilli (27-0) has fought primarily in Canada and his home of France. The 29-year-old has won 23 fights by knockout, two of them with the power punch in 2024. One of those wins was against former British and Commonwealth super-middleweight champion Mark Heffron.
“Solide” is ranked number one in the WBC rankings and will look to become a contender with a victory.
“It’s an honour to fight Sergiy Derevyanchenko. I’ve heard about him since I was 16, in the amateur ranks, where he beat several Frenchmen. In the professional world, he has only fought big names, so this will definitely be my biggest fight to date. I can’t wait. It’s going to be a war,” said Mbilli.

Derevyanchenko (15-5) made his mark in two losses in which he pushed former champions Daniel Jacobs and Gennadiy Golovkin to the limit. Since the loss to Golovkin, he is 2-3, including losses to Jermall Charlo and Jaime Munguia. The 2007 World Championship bronze medalist is looking to go 2-0 in 2024 and become a top contender in another pision.
“I made the decision to move up to 168 to win a world title. Throughout my career, I have always fought the best in the world, and August 17 will be no different,” Derevyanchenko said. “I will fight a tough opponent, Christian Mbilli, who is ranked No. 1 by the WBC. If I win this fight, I hope to fight for a world title next, which has always been my ultimate goal. I hope that August 17 will be a war and a Fight of the Year candidate, and I will be the winner.”
