Low iPhone SE 3 inventory is sparking speculation about a surprise release of Apple’s next-generation affordable iPhone, the iPhone SE 4.
Apple is set to release the new iPhone 16 on September 9, alongside new AirPods, Apple Watch, redesigned Mac mini, and more.
However, reports suggest that Apple could spring a surprise by launching the next affordable iPhone – the iPhone SE 4 – at the Glowtime event next week.
While the device was originally expected to arrive in early 2025, a report suggests otherwise. According to Mark Gurman PowerOn NewsletterStocks of various Apple devices are running low.
He notes that inventory of products such as iPhone cases, Apple Watch models and bands, AirPods and the iPad Mini are at an all-time low.
Interestingly, the report also states that iPhone SE 3 stock is also dropping. Even though this budget iPhone is not expected to get a successor until early next year.
Typically, low stock of a product or accessory means the product is being replaced or discontinued.

Thanks to various leaks and rumors, we know that the iPhone SE 4 is in the works – so the possibility of it debuting alongside the iPhone 16 cannot be ruled out.
The iPhone SE lineup’s irregular release cycle is also fueling speculation. Unlike other iPhones, the iPhone SE series does not follow a stable annual release cycle.
The first-generation iPhone SE was released in March 2016. However, it took four years for the second-generation iPhone SE to arrive, launching in April 2020. The iPhone SE 3 was released within two years, debuting in March 2022.
Aside from the launch in the first half of the year, the three iPhone SE launch dates don’t have much in common. That’s why it was strongly believed that the next-gen budget iPhone could arrive in early 2025.
That said, the iPhone SE 3 is already due for an update, and with the new AI features and design updates rumored, it could be a worthwhile purchase for anyone looking to get their hands on the iPhone on a budget.
