When Warzone first released in 2020, it quickly became a massive hit for the CoD franchise. Millions of players became obsessed with Verdansk, though the fervor only intensified when the game’s first small map shook everything up.
Rebirth Island arrived in December 2020, capping off the first year in style. The significantly smaller map quickened the pace of the Battle Royale, increasing its intensity. But over the years, it hasn’t always been a permanent fixture.
Whether it was during the Caldera or Al Mazrah eras, Rebirth Island has been removed at various stages. And while it’s currently accessible as Modern Warfare 3’s cycle draws to a close, fans have begun to fear its departure once again with Black Ops 6 on the horizon.
With a new bite-sized BR map on the way in the form of Area 99, is this addition meant to replace Rebirth Island entirely? Here’s what we know.

Is Renaissance Island being replaced by Area 99?
Currently, there is no indication that Rebirth Island will be removed when Area 99 arrives in Warzone.
Area 99 is set to debut in Warzone after Black Ops 6 is integrated. This major overhaul is expected to roll out with the Season 1 update, roughly a month after Black Ops 6 hits stores on October 25, 2024.
When Area 99 arrives in Warzone, it looks like it’ll be alongside Rebirth Island, though that’s still a mystery. Of course, we’ve seen fan-favorite modes and popular playlists disappear overnight over the years, so there’s every chance that Rebirth could suffer a similar fate without warning.
Although far from confirming this, the eminent CoD leaker ‘HeyImAlaix” has been circulating a rumor that Rebirth is indeed going away. Area 99 is set to feature as Warzone’s main small map, while Fortune’s Keep will supposedly remain a second option, they claimed.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see what exactly the developers have in store for the Season 1 update when Black Ops 6 takes center stage. It makes perfect sense for the developers to steer players toward the new creation, but removing Rebirth could lead to another wave of backlash.
