After the massive success of Space Marine 2, is Saber Interactive ready to deliver a sequel? According to the developers, it’s entirely possible.

Space Marine 2 is pretty much everything a Warhammer 40K fan could hope for in a video game adaptation. Its visceral combat system is faithful to the setting and there are plenty of references for the most die-hard fans.

Hell, it got the stamp of approval from Warhammer superfan Henry Cavill and as if his game wasn’t good enough, there are a few hundred thousand others. Space Marine 2 has become the most played Warhammer game of all time according to Steam charts.

Given this phenomenal success and the publishers’ desire to make money, a sequel to Space Marine 2 seems like a no-brainer. Developers at Saber Interactive seem to think so too, and a continuation of the game’s story is already being considered internally.

Space Marine 2 Developers Explore Sequel Potential

Talk with IGNSaber’s chief commercial officer Tim Willits revealed that game director Dmitry Grigorenko “has come up with some story ideas that could be either DLC or a sequel.” Willits, however, said those plans are still in the abstract. “We’re literally taking a breath,” he said.

Despite these small concessions, Willits talked about the prospect of a Space Marine 2 sequel as if it were a given for the rest of the interview. Given the game’s relative success relative to the size of the studio and publisher, it seems that both are looking to dedicate themselves to the franchise.

“I can say with certainty that we will not disappoint our Warhammer fans in the future,” Willits continued. “This is a huge success! I know it’s a no-brainer, but I hope we’ll be working on Space Marine content for a long time.”

The game’s open ending is a testament to Saber’s confidence that Space Marine 3 is a real possibility, and if Games Workshop wants it to happen, it looks like it will see the light of day. In the meantime, Space Marine 2 has a detailed post-launch roadmap that should keep players busy for the foreseeable future.
