Jalen Brunson’s rise to New York Knicks superstardom has quickly made him one of New York’s most beloved athletes.
But playing to a passionate fan base in New York also comes with a price: hearing from fans who think they know better than he does.
While appears on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” Alongside Josh Hart on Thursday, Brunson had a great answer when Meyers asked him if New Yorkers ever share their opinions about the team with him.
“Absolutely,” Brunson said with a laugh. “They say, ‘Tell Thibs, tell Thibs.’” [that].’
“I said, ‘You know what, I’m going to text him right now. I’m going to text him right now.'”
It’s a small price to pay, though, for the excitement that follows when the Knicks are good. Brunson hasn’t had much downtime, as his arrival in New York helped spark the team’s renaissance. Still, Brunson told Meyers it’s “unreal” to feel the “electricity” at Madison Square Garden and around the city when the Knicks win.
This season, the Knicks should do even more, as the Knicks are expected to be among the best teams in the Eastern Conference. After Brunson was named captain for one of the most successful playoff runs in league history and committed to staying with the Knicks at a discounted price, he should feel a lot of love from the city.
He will also have to hear the fans’ opinions about the team.
