The Denver Nuggets have re-signed star point guard Jamal Murray to a four-year, $208 million extension, according to Adrien WojanrowskiThis guarantees Murray $244 million over the next five years.
Last season, Murray averaged 21 points, four rebounds and six assists per game. He also shot over 40 percent from three-point range and averaged one steal per game.
Murray has been a cornerstone of the Nuggets, with Nikola Jokic and Michael Porter Jr. as the core of the championship. He and Porter Jr. are great support for Jokic, who is arguably the best player in the NBA and one of the best point guards. Murray’s playmaking and shooting make it very easy for Jokic to make plays by taking away defenders, and vice versa.
Murray, who is now the most recently selected player, along with Jokic and Porter Jr., gives Denver management a blueprint. Now that they know their top three stars aren’t going anywhere, they can look for role players to back them up. This definitely puts the Nuggets among the top three teams in the West for years to come.
