To say that Jaylen Brown was unhappy with the officiating in the Boston Celtics’ 100-95 loss to the San Antonio Spurs would be an understatement.

Brown didn’t shoot a single free throw in the game, and as a team the Celtics shot just four, compared to 20 for San Antonio.

Jaylen Brown calls out officials after Celtics shot just 4 free throws

After the game, Brown blasted the officiating and pointed to what he sees as a season-long trend. Brown knew that he’s likely to get fined for his comments, but he made them anyway,

“I’ll accept a fine at this point. I thought it was some bulls—t tonight,” Brown said. “I think they’re a good defensive team, but they ain’t that damn good. … Every time we play a good team the inconsistency is crazy.

“I’ll take the f—king fine. … Every time we play a good team it’s the same bulls–t. Somebody please pull up the clips. I’m irate how they officiated the game today.”

This isn’t the first time this week that Brown has publicly complained about officiating. He made similar comments following Boston’s 114-110 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night after he was awarded just three free throws in that game.

“They were physical and they got away with a lot,” Brown said of the Denver’s defense. “The refs allowed them to get away with a lot. I would have loved to get to the free-throw line a little bit more.

“I was physical. I was aggressive. I went up strong. I didn’t flop. But I kind of let the officiating get to my head a little bit. I think their defense was good, but it wasn’t great.”

On the season, Brown is averaging a career-high 7.4 free throw attempts per game, but he clearly feels like he’s deserving of more.

Perhaps he feels like public protesting will lead to him getting a more favorable whistle. It remains to be seen if that approach will work, but one thing it will likely lead to is a fine for Brown from the league.
