Embiid has been fined for using the celebratory gesture, as it is a rather obscene gesture, but that hasn’t stopped him from using it. The 7-foot-10 player brought the gesture to Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympics, using it late in the second quarter against Brazil.

Embiid used his signature play late in the second quarter after ending the game with a 1-1 tie against Brazil. The center had 14 points at halftime as the U.S. held a 63-36 lead.

Embiid was not given a technical foul for the gesture, even though the NBA normally penalizes the play. FIBA referees may have let it slide or simply not noticed it. Either way, Brazil did not benefit from it at all.
The United States earned the top seed in the knockout round, facing Brazil in the quarterfinals. The United States will play Serbia in the semifinals.
Where does the DX cut come from?
The DX chop is not Embiid’s original move despite his constant use of the celebration. It originates from D-Generation X, a WWE wrestling team.
D-Generation X, better known as DX, popularized this move, which is an obscene celebration directed at opponents. While it is a celebration, it is also considered taunting, which is one of the other reasons NBA players are often fined for it.
Antonio Edwards He’s another player who’s already worn the DX cut in an NBA game. Embiid and Edwards happen to share the court in Paris, so maybe they can celebrate together.
Another of Embiid’s teammates on the U.S. national team, Kevin Durant, once called his celebration “garbage.”
