After a good first game of the new campaign for both teams, Juventus travel to face Hellas Verona on Monday in the Serie A season opener.
Juve crushed newly-promoted Como 3-0 in their first game of the 2024/25 league season, while Verona surprised Napoli by the same scoreline in their first match.
Verona had just 33% possession but after seeing the game go goalless at half-time, they scored three times in the second half to beat Napoli for the first time in over three years and send a warning to the rest of the Serie A elite, a season after finishing three points above the relegation zone in a fierce relegation battle.
Juventus have strong ties to America, but unfortunately for American fans, they may not be able to see their USMNT stars in action this weekend. Tim Weah injured his hamstring in the season opener (but still managed to score his team’s second goal before going off) and Weston McKennie has fallen behind the other midfielders in the pecking order, although McKennie appears close to signing a contract extension with the club.

The first round win over Napoli is surely a sign of intent for Hellas Verona this season, but where they were able to take advantage of a mentally fragile opponent in that game, they cannot do the same against Juventus, who are known for their ability to get results in games like this.
Juve are known for their tight defensive set-up, limiting Como to just three shots in total and an average of 0.17 xG in their first league game. Even if Verona manage to score, it will be extremely difficult to keep Juventus at bay at the other end of the pitch after a ruthless performance in front of goal earlier this season. Even if Dusan Vlahovic continues to underperform his expected goals, there are other strong finishers in the squad.

Even though the value is somewhat muted, it is still reasonable to expect Juventus to take a defensive approach in their away game against Hellas Verona. These two teams have played to under 2.5 goals in six of their last eight meetings since the start of the 2020/21 season, and in the two games that ended with a higher scoreline, Verona got a result in both cases.
The way for Juventus to win here is to keep Verona off the scoresheet, and possibly be able to poach one or two.

Dusan Vlahovic is an expected goal sink. While he will score his goals based solely on his volume of play and a few sensational goals, this season will be all about Kenan Yildiz breaking out in attack for Juventus.
The young Turk, aged just 19, emerged last season with some impressive performances, but ultimately managed just two goals in Serie A and two more in the Coppa Italia. After starting in the opening game of the season, where he provided an assist, it seems that Yildiz is in coach Thiago Motta’s plans.
With two shots and three chances created against Como, Yildiz will be an important part of Juventus’ preparation, and should have both his chances and create some for Vlahovic and other finishers in the team. There is significant value here as the betting market does not yet have sufficient knowledge on the young playmaker.
