Newly acquired Sacramento Kings superstar DeMar DeRozan has said he is considering joining several teams other than the Kings. The Paul George PodcastThe teams he was considering were the LA Clippers and Lakers, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Miami Heat.
“Philly was definitely an option. The Lakers were always an option. The Clippers were an option. And the Heat… Those teams, for sure, were personal, legitimate options that I was considering,” DeRozan said.
Last season, DeRozan averaged 24 points, four rebounds and five assists. He was a multiple All-Star and a member of the All-NBA team.
Many of those teams would be a great fit for DeRozan, but joining the Kings was arguably the best choice. The Clippers would have gotten him with an injury-prone Kawhi Leonard, making any serious playoff run impossible. He would be the third option for the Lakers and Sixers, and the Heat would have the league’s smallest starting five with him.
With the Kings, he’s now the second option, with De’Aaron Fox as the first and Domantas Sabonis as the third. They also control all three scoring levels, with Sabonis as an inside and outside presence, Fox as an outside and inside presence, and DeRozan controlling the midrange. This offense will be one of the scariest in the Western Conference.
