When Industry Season 3 premieres tonight on HBO. Fans of this smart and sexy series will meet a powerful new character who will shake up the Pierpoint crew. game of Thrones Series alum Kit Harington plays Sir Henry Muck, an idealistic aristocrat preparing to go public with his green energy company, Lumi. The wealthy men and women of Pierpoint bet big on Muck and Lumi, boosting the company’s stock in the eyes of its investors and sending Robert Spearing (Harry Lawtey) to essentially babysit the mercurial CEO.
But Kit Harington’s arrival on the show also brings a shot of metabolic energy. For a decade, his face was synonymous with HBO’s biggest hit, game of ThronesJust as Pierpoint hopes that Lumi will prove to be the next big thing in financial sectors, some Industry Everyone who has seen the series has been feverishly wondering whether Harington will help finally draw casual HBO subscribers into the orbit of the cult hit. Industry knows it’s a bright and daring spectacle, including Kit Harington himself.
“Kit came to the show” Industry Co-creator Konrad Kay told Jugo Mobile during a recent interview, “He was a fan of the show and Henry existed before him.”
Kit Harington is actually a lot of a Industry fan who revealed at a recent press conference that he doesn’t like the many comparisons critics make to other HBO shows, such as Succession either Euphoria.
“I don’t really like being compared to other shows. I know we do it all the time, but being compared to… Succession and Euphoria “And all that? It’s its own thing,” Harington said. “I thought it was a completely unique show and that’s why I jumped at the chance to be on it when it came out.”
“The truth about Kit is that he’s world famous. We met Jon Snow. Everyone knows him. He’s great on that show,” Kay told Jugo Mobile. “But what was gratifying to us was that he could fit in. He’s a guy with no ego, he came in and owned the character.”
And who exactly is Sir Henry Muck? Well, he’s a very well-known character, and at the same time refreshingly new. He comes from a distinguished family of English aristocracy, but he also wants to be at the forefront of a green revolution.
“The inspiration was that we wanted to write about a CEO of a tech company, but without it feeling like a rehash of Elizabeth Holmes, Adam Neumann and all those guys,” Kay said. “We wanted to write about specifically British themes, which were a kind of hyper-education, a level of privilege that brings a level of expectation.”
“People like Henry can spend their whole lives failing. Everything good depends on them and everything bad is limited by basically blaming others.”
“I’ve met a lot of people like Henry,” Harington said at the aforementioned press conference. “I think what I found fascinating about him was that he can’t see his own privilege. Amazingly, he can say he sees it, but he doesn’t see it. He’s sort of inside a web of privilege that he can’t get out of and he can’t see how he’s being held in place. And yet at the same time, inside that little gilded cage, these horrible things have happened in his life.”
Industry Fans will learn more about the horrors that have visited Henry as the season progresses, but there’s a dark hint of it in tonight’s Season 3 premiere. When Yasmin (Marisa Abela) is called to check in with Henry at home, he commiserates with her over the scandal surrounding her embezzling father. He explains that he knows what it’s like to have the sins of your parents held in your face.
“I thought it was a kind of fascinating place to start with someone and explore someone in that place of privilege, but who is deeply, deeply, deeply unhappy,” Harington said.
One of the things that makes Henry Muck even more fun to watch is how he also represents a new kind of masculine threat.
“We had a joke about how many times he uses the word ‘vulnerable’ on the show,” Harington said, drawing laughs. “He’s this modern guy who’s been to therapy and completely understands that the world has changed and that he, as a man, has to change with it, but now he manipulates women with therapy talk. He can’t see it.”
“I just thought, what a wonderful character I would like to have on board.”
