It’s no secret that Boston fans don’t like Kyrie Irving, and the feeling is mutual for the former Celtics All-Star. The hatred the two sides have for each other is likely to last well beyond Irving’s career.
Irving just changed his Instagram profile picture on a photo of himself on the Boston Celtics logo. At first glance, it’s hard to tell, but anyone familiar with their history can recognize that it’s a subtle attack on the franchise.
The current Dallas Mavericks point guard recently said, “There’s definitely blood in the water,” when talking about last season’s finale between his current team and his former team.
It’s hard to fault either team for not liking each other. Irving has always been very attached to the team and the fans have been hostile to their star player since his departure. They got off to a bad start when Boston fans questioned his greatness compared to Isaiah Thomas and Irving burned his bridges before leaving, jumping ship to Brooklyn.
It’s safe to say that Boston has the last laugh by beating him in the NBA Finals, but this loss will undoubtedly encourage Irving to be better next time around. Rivalries are a huge part of sports, and there’s none bigger in the NBA right now than the one between Kyrie Irving and the Boston Celtics.
