The Los Angeles Lakers have done a great job assembling talent on the team’s roster over the past few years.
The Lakers have made countless moves to capitalize on the team’s championship window while LeBron James is still on the roster. Entering the season, Los Angeles boasts one of the most talented teams in the league, including one of the best sidekicks in the NBA.
“There was a time when we thought (Anthony) Davis would be a surefire No. 1,” writes Ben Rohrbach of Yahoo Sports. “At the age of 24, he finished third in the MVP and Defensive Player of the Year races. He grew up as a ball guard and became a monster rim protector, retaining the skills and athleticism that drew him to the sport.
“He has all the tools, even enough outside shooting to be a threat. Few players are more dangerous at the rim.
Davis landed with the Lakers in a blockbuster offseason trade in 2019. Since joining the storied franchise, the big man has averaged 24.7 points, 10.8 rebounds and 3 .1 assists alongside James.
Although Davis is no longer considered a No. 1 option, he has proven he can put the team on his back. During last year’s playoffs, the 31-year-old put up monster numbers averaging 27.8 points, 15.6 rebounds, four assists and 1.6 blocks per game.
The Kentucky product looks to continue that momentum into the 2024-25 season as the No. 18 Lakers championship.
