The Las Vegas Raiders have found their solution at the quarterback position for 2025, with the team reportedly agreeing to a trade with the Seattle Seahawks for Geno Smith.
According to Tashan Reed of The Athletic, the Raiders are trading a 2025 third-round pick to the Seahawks for Smith. Las Vegas has two third-round picks but it isn’t clear which one they are sending.
At one point, it looked like the Seahawks were going to hold on to Smith and maybe even extend him based on what Seattle general manager John Schneider said, but NFL Network’s Ian Rapport notes that the two sides could not make progress.
Now, Smith reunites with his old head coach in Pete Carroll, who took the reins of the Raiders back in January. Smith spent four seasons with Carroll in Seattle, where he revived his career and had his best season as a pro in 2021.

The Raiders figured to explore the veteran quarterback market, even if they were targeting a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft. Vic Tafur of The Athletic notes the Raiders weren’t high on Sam Darnold and other free-agent quarterbacks, which explains why Las Vegas pulled off a deal for Smith.
Smith is entering the final year of his contract in 2025, but Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports is reporting that an extension for Smith from the Raiders is “likely to come.”
Smith joins a quarterbacks room that also includes Aidan O’Connell and 2024 UDFA Carter Bradley. O’Connell is now in line to the backup to Smith.
