Luis ‘The Stache’ Hernandez, a police officer by trade who is now also 6-0 as a mixed martial artist, made it viral this weekend for his post-fight tussle with Sean Strickland.
Strickland, the former UFC middleweight champion, took issue with the way Hernandez celebrated choking out Sean’s teammate in their fight at Tuff-N-Uff 145 on Sunday.
However, Luis says that Strickland started the trash talk first, and that his pelvic thrust celebration was just a response.
Either way, what happened next was caught on video for all to see: Sean and teammate Chris Curtis left the corner of their fighter to storm the cage furiously.
Curtis grabbed Hernandez by the neck while Strickland kicked off his flip-flops and connected to the chin with a right hand before security separated the athletes.
Hernandez told Ariel Helwani of Uncrowned MMA ahis side of the story.
“He said some things, and I said some things back, and he didn’t like what I said,” Luis recalled. “He was saying I was tired, making fun of me, I think he called me fat.”
Hernandez appeared to be in a good humor about it all by the time of the interview.
After his win he is 6-0 in MMA and hoping to have a UFC roster spot soon.
“[He connected] but I’m still standing, still smiling,” Luis said. “I got a three second knockout [before]… Hopefully I’ll be in the UFC soon.”
Having beef with a former champion and highly controversial figure of his division, like Sean Strickland, should give Hernandez a leg up on winning that roster spot.
As for Strickland and Curtis, it is likely their corner licenses will be revoked or even that they may be flat-out suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), similar to fellow fighters Arman Tsarukyan and Dennis Buzukja.

If so, it could be a while before Strickland is seen inside the Octagon again.
The UFC middleweight contender has not fought since his UFC 312 loss to Dricus du Plessis, while Chris Curtis last lost in January by knockout against Roman Kopylov.
