Barcelona are reportedly winning the transfer race to sign Athletic Bilbao striker Nico Williams ahead of Premier League duo Arsenal and Liverpool.
Williams has continued his impressive rise this summer, with the 22-year-old scoring the decisive goal in Spain’s Euro 2024 final victory over England.
A key part of Luis de la Fuente’s side in the competition, Williams’ partnership with Lamine Yamal looks set to lead Spain’s attack for many years to come – and now they could unite on the club stage too.
Nico Williams transfer fee and contract
Williams extended his contract in Bilbao until 2027 at the start of the year, with the Basque team looking to protect itself from potential exit negotiations.
However, his new deal includes a 55 million euro ($59 million) buy option, which Arsenal and Liverpool have the financial capacity to pay.
Despite Barcelona’s financial problems, Williams is rumoured to be only interested in swapping the Basque Country for Catalonia, with Hansi Flick considering him as his first major signing.
According to the latest update from the transfer expert Fabricius RomanoBarcelona sporting director Deco has met with Williams’ agent while the player is currently on summer break.

La Liga president Javier Tebas has indicated that Barcelona’s improving finances could allow a deal to be completed if they continue to sell players and reduce the squad’s wage bill.
