Liverpool will attempt to get their domestic season back on track on Saturday as Nottingham Forest visit Anfield in the Premier League.
Arne Slot’s team suffered a demoralising 3-0 defeat to Manchester City prior to the international break, leaving them eight points adrift of league leaders Arsenal heading into this latest round of games.
While such a gap to the summit may feel too big to breach even this early in the campaign, the congested nature of the table means the Reds could find themselves back on the Gunners’ coattails with just a handful of positive results.
Forest, meanwhile, are on a three-game unbeaten run in all competitions and beat Leeds United 3-1 just before the international window. Former Everton boss Sean Dyche is now in charge at the City Ground and would relish the chance to strike another blow to Liverpool’s title defence.

Liverpool team news
Slot confirmed on November 21 that right-back Conor Bradley is facing around three weeks out with a muscle issue, while Florian Wirtz has also sustained an injury that will see him miss Saturday’s game.
With Jeremie Frimpong still sidelined and Slot concerned about Joe Gomez‘s potential workload, Dominik Szoboszlai could return to his makeshift full-back role. That means Hugo Ekitike and Cody Gakpo are likely to come into the forward line, assuming Alexander Isak is fit enough to start.
Andy Robertson missed training on Thursday but is expected to be available. Goalkeeper Alisson is tipped to return after more than a month out of action.
Liverpool injury list
Below is the latest injury picture for Liverpool, including estimated return dates for those who are sidelined.
Conor Bradley
- Injury: Muscle
- Expected return date: December 13
Slot said Bradley had sustained a muscle injury during the international break in November and would not be involved for “the upcoming 22 days”.
The home game with Brighton & Hove Albion on December 13 looks like a possible return date.
Florian Wirtz
- Injury: Muscle
- Expected return date: December 3
Like Bradley, Wirtz suffered a muscle injury prior to Liverpool’s game with Nottingham Forest, but Slot said he did not expect the Germany international to be out for as long. He could target the midweek match with Sunderland in early December for his return.
Jereme Frimpong
- Injury: Hamstring
- Expected return date: November 26
Frimpong suffered the second hamstring injury of his fledgling Liverpool career in Frankfurt and faces another month on the sidelines as club medics look to get to the bottom of a nagging issue for the former Bayer Leverkusen star.
Slot does not expect him to be available to face Forest, but Wednesday’s Champions League game against PSV is a possibility.
Alisson Becker
- Injury: Thigh
- Expected return date: November 22
Slot’s No. 1 Alisson suffered a thigh injury saving a certain goal in the defeat to Galatasaray at the end of September. The Brazilian has resumed training, and Slot hopes he will be ready to return against Forest.
Giovanni Leoni
- Injury: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear
- Expected return date: August 2026
Summer signing Leoni suffered a nightmare debut as he horrifically tore an ACL against Southampton. The Italian defender underwent immediate surgery and his campaign has already been cruelly ended.
