Manchester United have confirmed Alejandro Garnacho will not join up with the Argentina squad this week.
The 20-year-old was called up by Lionel Scaloni for Argentina’s incoming FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifier double header against Venezuela and Bolivia.
However, he will now remain in Manchester, as the Red Devils look to manage his game load due to an slight knee injury.
Garnacho completed 90 minutes in United’s weekend 0-0 Premier League draw at Aston Villa but the call has been made to rest him from a long trip to South America.
As per reports from the Manchester Evening News, Garnacho’s benching for the midweek 3-3 UEFA Europa League draw at Porto was also part of the club’s strategy.

However, despite wearing a strapping on his knee at Villa Park, United fans can rest easy that it is not a major issue for the winger, and his withdrawal from Argentina duty is a precaution.
He is expected to be ready for United’s return to EPL action at home to Brentford on October 19 with a week to rest his injury.
The long flight and extra games were a concern for United, particularly if Garnacho was only used sparingly by Scaloni, after he played just 11 minutes off the bench across Argentina’s two games in September.
