The Memphis Grizzlies have been one of the top teams in the West all season long, but after firing head coach Taylor Jenkins, times have been tough for the team in Memphis. Although the Grizzlies are in a position to make the play-in tournament, the gap to the sixth seed is narrow.

Over the past week, point guard Ja Morant has been embroiled in an ongoing feud with the NBA over his celebrations. Just last week, Morant was warned for pointing guns as part of a celebration. However, despite the warning from the NBA, he continued to repeat the gesture, resulting in a fine.

“The same day he was warned by the NBA league office about his gun gesture, along with Golden State’s Buddy Hield (whom he pointed at), Morant unleashed the same celebration on national TV and was subsequently fined $75,000,” wrote Vincent Goodwill.

On Tuesday, the Grizzlies were on the road in Charlotte. Early in the game, rookie Jaylen Wells suffered a serious injury. After the game, Wells shared a positive update on Instagram, despite having broken his wrist.

Morant has been an inspiring story since his college days, especially given that he didn’t receive much attention from big schools. Since entering the NBA, the point guard has made a name for himself and hasn’t looked back. However, if his behavior continues, he could face a suspension from the league.

In the same game that Wells got hurt, Morant threw an imaginary grenade after making a three-pointer. The Memphis point guard has gone from pointing guns to channeling his inner Call of Duty. A larger fine or potential suspension could be on the horizon for Morant, but for now, he’s escaped further punishment.

A suspension at this point in the season would be disastrous for the Grizzlies as they try to avoid the play-in tournament. Perhaps a conversation with Morant will convince him to cease celebrations that the NBA disapproves of.
