The Philadelphia 76ers made numerous upgrades to their roster during the offseason, but no one expected a major change off the court.
That’s what the state of New Jersey is reportedly trying to do. Tom Bergeron of ROI-NJ News He recently shared the state’s desire to relocate the Sixers to New Jersey, more specifically building their new stadium in Camden.
“The state of New Jersey is making a serious effort to convince the Philadelphia 76ers to move to New Jersey and a new stadium to be built in Camden, four people familiar with the discussions confirmed to ROI-NJ,” Bergeron wrote. “Sources indicated that talks have recently resumed, in part because HBSE’s efforts to build a new stadium in downtown Philadelphia have run into repeated roadblocks, despite the fact that the owners have indicated they would self-finance the proposed $1.3 billion project.”
While it’s hard to imagine the 76ers ever leaving the City of Brotherly Love, there is a chance New Jersey could add an expansion team to the NBA.
