Newcastle United are prepared to make a final push for the Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in the next few days.
The Magpies have been keeping tabs on the England international following his starring role in the Three Lions’ run to the Euro 2024 final earlier this summer.
The former Chelsea centre-back has become one of the Premier League’s standout players in his position as well as taking over as captain of Palace.
However, despite his contract at Selhurst Park running until 2026, Newcastle have highlighted the 24-year-old as a key target in a long-running transfer saga.
The Magpies are rumoured to have seen four bids rejected by Palace as they look to make small increases with each offer, but the Eagles have stuck to their £70m (US$90m) valuation.
Part of Palace’s determination is based on the requirement to pay a 20% resale clause to Chelsea and that has pushed up Guehi’s price.
However, as the transfer window nears its close, reports of the Daily Express They say progress has been made and Newcastle have submitted a final offer matching that figure.
Palace will also have to move quickly to find a replacement, with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano indicating that VfL Wolfsburg captain Maxence Lacroix is his preferred option.

Lacroix’s asking price is less than half of what Guehi’s departure could bring and that will offer Oliver Glasner the opportunity to bring more reinforcements to the team.
