Indiana Pacers star point guard Tyrese Haliburton said he has no plans to leave Indiana, according to the The Pat McAfee ShowThis comes after NBA legend Stephon Marbury made a comment about how Haliburton would be a good fit for the Phoenix Suns.
“I’m not going anywhere… The Marbury comment is weird. Why does Phoenix need me? They have Tyus Jones… I’m good in Indy, they’re good in Phoenix.”
Last season, Haliburton averaged 20 points, four rebounds and 11 assists for the Pacers. He also led the team from a sixth-place playoff seed to upset victories over the Milwaukee Bucks and New York Knicks. The Pacers lost the Eastern Conference Finals, but they lost to the league’s top team, the Boston Celtics, who went on to win the NBA Finals.
Haliburton might fit in with the Suns, but his fit with the Pacers is perfect for his style of play, which is why he didn’t want to leave. They surround him with shooters and slashers, so he can do whatever he wants. He can lob slashers, kick to shooters for three-pointers, and he can score at any time since defenders are more concerned with where he’s going to shoot than whether he’s trying to score.
Overall, the Pacers could be the home of Haliburton’s career, and if Indiana can surround him with what he needs, there’s certainly a chance they make another playoff run.
