The Green Bay Packers will take the field in Week 2 without their best player.
The Green Bay Redskins are expected to be without quarterback Jordan Love. With Love likely to miss the game, Malik Willis will start at center for the game against the Indianapolis Colts.
The Packers will have a tough matchup against the Colts, but CBS Sports’ Garrett Podell predicts that Green Bay will come out on top with Willis leading.
“The Packers, a team that reached the NFC Divisional Round in 2023, are three-point home underdogs against the Colts, according to SportsLine’s consensus odds, a team that hasn’t reached the playoffs since 2020,” Podell said. “Why would that be? Well, Jordan Love is unlikely to play with a sprained knee. That puts former Tennessee Titans quarterback and 2022 third-round pick Malik Willis in the spotlight as the Packers’ starting quarterback.
“That’s understandably bold, because Willis hasn’t shown he can be a dropback passer. His 40 percent dropback percentage in quarterback starts over the last 15 seasons is the lowest in the NFL among those with at least three starts. It could be tough to build an offense around him. However, he looked much more polished as a passer in the 2024 preseason at Tennessee, which suggests a major improvement. Willis shows that improvement in head coach Matt LaFleur’s offense loaded with young guns against an AFC South team he saw plenty of film of during his two years with the Titans while leading Green Bay to victory over his former team.”
Green Bay has a lot of talent and can certainly win on Sunday.
