Pep Guardiola celebrated his 500th game in charge of Manchester City with a vital 2-0 Premier League win at Leicester City.
Guardiola’s charges struggled for fluidity at the King Power Stadium but goals either side of the break from Savinho and Erling Haaland secured a timely victory.
Three points in the east Midlands means City have now won just twice in their past 14 games across all competitions as Guardiola searches for answers over their poor form.
The Catalan coach saw his team pick up a first EPL win in their last five games on a landmark afternoon at Leicester.
However, a patchy performance from the visitors is still a cause for concern for Guardiola, and he admitted there is no time to dwell on a positive result.
“So many days without winning when we are used to it. It’s a relief. The performance was not our best, Leicester were good. Happy for the result for the players, their commitment to be here,” as per BBC Sport.
“Now we must clear our minds by getting results. We are far away from winning the Premier League. We accept there’s already no chance of that but we have other things to fight for. FA Cup, top four and winning games helps.
“This is just one game. The game against Manchester United hurt us a lot in terms of confidence. That game killed us. It was mentally a struggle, then tough games against Aston Villa and Everton. It is what it is, we have to hunt for wins and that’s life. Most of the players proved again they are ready to fight.”
Man City kickoff 2025 with an EPL clash at home to West Ham United on January 4.
