The Buffalo Bills addressed their pass rush in NFL free agency by stealing away Bradley Chubb from the Miami Dolphins, but it sounds like the franchise is still eyeing upgrades the defensive line this offseason.
According to Jason La Canfora of SportsBoom, some executives believe Buffalo will target pass rush in Round 1 of April’s draft, and could also move up from pick 26 to add an immediate impact player up front.
“Some believe, in fact, that even after signing Bradley Chubb in free agency (from rival Miami), Bills general manager Brandon Beane will be willing to move up the draft board to land a potential impact edge presence if there is a fear such prospects will not be available at their current pick (26th overall),” La Canfora said.
Though Greg Rousseau is a solid complementary edge rusher opposite Bradley Chubb, the Bills could be looking to add some competition for the Miami product and have three starting-caliber players in the position group.
If Buffalo decides to move up for a pass rusher, the Chicago Bears, Pittsburgh Steelers, Detroit Lions, and Los Angeles Chargers could be possible trade partners.
All four teams could use extra draft capital. and strike a deal with the Bills to move down, so Buffalo can up and land their desired edge rusher.
Chicago doesn’t have picks in the fifth or sixth round, while Pittsburgh may seek even more capital to add to their already sizeable stock of selections.
Detroit has just two top 100 selections and no pick in Round 3. Trading down with the Bills for a third-round selection would be a savvy move by general manager Brad Holmes.
Los Angeles has just five total picks in the draft, and that just isn’t going to cut it. It would be wise for the Chargers to trade back from No. 22 in Round 1, and the Bills could be the franchise that gives them extra capital.
