Tottenham have a challenge on their hands as they open their 2024/25 Premier League season with a visit to newly-promoted Leicester City on Monday.
The Foxes are back in the top flight after spending just one season in the Championship, winning the league last season and well placed to try and re-establish themselves as regular Premier League participants.
It is a tough opening task for Spurs ahead of a campaign in which Ange Postecoglou hopes to challenge for a Champions League place. Tottenham finished fifth last season, just two points off the bottom of the UCL, and are expected to be in contention for the top four next year.
If Spurs are to put themselves in a position to finish in the top four, beating newly promoted teams will be an important step in that process, even if one of them is stronger than a traditionally promoted club.
Leicester City vs Tottenham Prediction and Odds
- Tilt towards the money line: Draw (+310)
- Score prediction: Leicester City 2-2 Tottenham
Leicester City are not your typical newly promoted side. Two years ago, their statistical profile was not that of a team in danger of relegation, but they were relegated anyway and got promoted again after winning the championship. This summer, they were limited, caught in the grip of the PSR regulations, but they still made a good deal by bringing in Bobby Decordova-Reid on a free transfer, plus some well-considered acquisitions on the cheap.
Dominic Solanke is a tough opponent to control defensively, but Leicester City have the talent to keep up with Spurs’ goalscoring streak, even with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall having left for Chelsea.
The matchday line movement has been significant in favour of the underdog, with Leicester City’s money odds falling from 4/1 to just over 3/1.
