It may be early, but it’s worth noting that there’s a long list of assets the Los Angeles Lakers could target once the 2026 offseason arrives.
Lake Show Life’s Tyler Watts believes it would be wise for the organization to reunite Luke Doncic with his former 6-foot-6 Dallas Mavericks teammate.
“(P.J.) Washington averaged 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.1 blocks in 32.2 minutes per game last season,” Watts wrote Tuesday. “He is a streaky shooter, but has made 35.8% from three-point range for his career.”
“Getting a versatile forward capable of guarding multiple positions, rebounding, and knocking down open looks is a win for any contender. The Lakers could slot Washington in as the defender to cover for Luka and Austin Reaves on that end of the floor.”
“The Lakers are set on winning a title with Luka leading their roster. Washington could be a key piece, but he will likely command around $20 million per year on his next contract.”
Washington’s production with the Mavericks in 2024-25 flew under the radar for obvious reasons.

Dallas’ season was highlighted by the organization’s head-scratching decision to trade Doncic to the Lakers in early February.
Additionally, the Mavericks missed the postseason after reaching the final round two seasons ago.
Still, Washington’s impactful interior and perimeter defense, improved corner three, and physical finishes over shot blockers in the lane were encouraging to witness in Year 6.
While competing with Doncic during Dallas’ eventful 2023-24 campaign, the ex-Charlotte Hornets forward proved he could contribute on a Western Conference squad capable of winning its first championship since 2011.
Washington contributed 11.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per contest in 29 outings with the Mavericks.
Considering Los Angeles wants to continue accommodating Doncic following the five-time All-Star’s decision to ink an extension with the franchise, signing Washington could quickly become a priority.
A reunion could be in order next summer.
