The Las Vegas Raiders are going to be in the market for a wide receiver in 2025 after trading Davante Adams to the New York Jets before the deadline. While it remains to be seen what options the Raiders will have exactly, one player to keep an eye on is Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson.
When asked about possibly signing an extension with the Jets down the road, Wilson said “I don’t know,” but also noted that he loves the Jets but “can’t be worried about all that” right now.
If Wilson decides to demand a trade in the offseason, Pro Football Network’s Alex Kennedy thinks the Raiders could be a landing spot for the former first-round selection.
While finding their quarterback of the future is the top priority this offseason, they also need to bring in an alpha WR1 to support their young QB.
Brock Bowers is a terrific tight end and a quarterback’s best friend, and Jakobi Meyers is a solid complementary receiver. But ideally, the Raiders will land a star wideout who is on the same timeline as their young signal-caller.
After trading Adams to New York, Las Vegas needs to upgrade their receiving corps; aside from Meyers, no other Raiders wide receiver has 500 receiving yards or three receiving touchdowns this season.
Trading for Wilson would be a no-brainer move for the Raiders, a team that is likely to be adding a young franchise quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Wilson has broken 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons and is set to do it again in 2024. Making Wilson’s first three seasons in the NFL more impressive is the fact that he’s had to deal with awful situations at quarterback.
Wilson is also very young (24) and could serve as a long-term weapon alongside Brock Bowers. And, assuming Jakobi Meyers returns next season, Las Vegas would have an elite trio of pass-catchers for whoever is under center.
While that’s all well and good, the Jets would be foolish to trade on of their best players, especially when he still has two more years left on his $20 million rookie deal when including the fifth-year option. Granted, it’s the Jets, so anything is possible, but even they can’t be dumb enough to send Wilson packing.
