Over the past few seasons, Milwaukee has struggled to find the right pieces, but bringing back a familiar face could help.
This summer looked like it could have been a transformative one for the Bucks. After a third straight first-round exit, the Bucks looked like they were heading toward a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade.
However, the rumors around Antetokounmpo have been silenced in recent weeks as neither side seems interested in moving on. Still, the Bucks have plenty of problems to address this offseason, most importantly how to get a contending roster around their superstar.
With Damian Lillard set to miss a large chunk of next season with a torn Achilles, it will be up to Milwaukee to find a solid point guard in his absence. Assuming the Bucks could get under the $196 million first apron, they could access more of their $14 million midlevel exception, as ESPN recently noted.
In that same article from Tim Bontemps and Brian Windhorst, they also reported that the Bucks could use that money to go after point guards they have interest in, listing Tyus Jones, Dennis Schroder and Malcolm Brogdon. While all could be solid options, Brogdon seems like a no-brainer to bring back if the opportunity arises.
Brogdon began his career in Milwaukee and played his first three seasons there, winning Rookie of the Year in 2016-17. While he left for a bigger contract in 2019, the Bucks have missed him since.

Last season with the Wizards, Brogdon averaged 19.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 6.3 assists. Although injuries allowed him to play only 24 games, that could help his value stay low enough for the Bucks to make a legitimate run at him.
He has recently shown an ability to contribute to a contender, winning Sixth Man of the Year with the Boston Celtics in 2023. Add in that he is a career 38.8% 3-point shooter, and he could be the perfect fit for the Bucks in Lillard’s absence and as the third option when he returns.
