A new Skate game is officially on the way, bringing back the sorely missed skateboarding game series as a free-to-play multiplayer title.
Skateboarding fans have been clamoring for a new Skate game since Skate 3 back in 2010. Tony Hawk returned with a remaster of Pro Skater 3 + 4, but now, it’s Skate’s turn with a brand-new title from EA.
We finally have an Early Access release date and other details, so here’s everything we know about Skate (officially stylized skate.) so far.

Skate release date
Skate releases on September 16, 2025, through Early Access. It was announced on Tuesday, August 26, alongside a new trailer.
Despite its Early Access launch, players can expect a live-service model with “new content every season, offering fresh challenges, cosmetics, music, world updates, and new events each season.”
The devs don’t know when it’ll leave Early Access, but they “expect to move towards a ‘full’ release approximately a year out from the start of Early Access but we don’t know for certain at this time.”

Platforms
Skate will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
In a June 2024 development update, the devs explained they sought to “remove as many barriers to play as possible” by releasing on all of these systems and including cross-platform play and cross-progression.
Skate is free-to-play
Skate is entirely free-to-play, and will be supported by a live-service model with new seasons dropping every three months.
There’s a Skate Shop which offers premium cosmetics to buy with San Van Bucks (SVB), which you use to customize your character. The devs also said “there’s a lot to unlock by simply playing the game and earning rewards.”

There’s also a ‘Skate.pass’ as part of the live-seasons, “with a paid and free track with various rewards, Seasonal Challenges, and activities to keep you on your board.”
Open world gameplay
Skate is set in the fictional city of San Vansterdam, which has four distinct neighborhoods: Gullcrest Village, Hedgemont, Market Mile, and Brickswich.

The game is always online, so you’ll be exploring San Vansterdam with other players in a “dynamic social world.”
This sandbox world has challenges to complete to “get Rip Chips to unlock boxes and get gear,” but you can also just hang out with other players, or head to the ImpervaTEST Zones to build and explore custom skateparks.

The devs promise “improved Flick-It controls” and physics as part of EA’s Frostbite engine.
Soundtrack
The soundtrack will feature around 100 songs from a variety of artists including:
- Turnstile
- Denzel Curry
- Little Simz
- Skegss
- Earth, Wind & Fire
- MF Doom
The official playlist will head to Spotify “soon,” so keep an eye out for the full reveal.
Skate trailers
On Tuesday, August 26, a new trailer showed off the date that fans can finally check out the game, as well as gameplay throughout San Vansterdam.
Ahead of the official release date trailer, the devs released a series of developer diaries showing some early footage and updating fans on their progress, which you can check out below.

The first arrived in July 2021, confirming the game was in development:
One year later and the devs cheekily provided an update video, reminding fans they’re “still working on it.”
Brands like Vans, Chocolate, and Girls have already been featured in the Skate trailers, but the developers assure the fan base that there will be more collaborations to come in the future.
A June 2024 update from the devs dove into gameplay improvements, including various tricks players will be able to perform, as well as social features.

In September 2024, the developer announced the early access release window with a tweet that included some pre-alpha footage.
