Ghost of Yotei brings back the classic Samurai action charm Sucker Punch introduced to PlayStation users with their hit title, Ghost of Tsushima. The first title in the franchise became an instant favorite, thanks to its cinematic storytelling inspired by Kurosawa films and dynamic combat players were treated to, both in the ways of the Samurai and a Shinobi.
Its spiritual successor, Ghost of Yotei, follows similar footprints; however, it carves its own identity as a “Kill Bill set in Feudal Japan” as we mentioned in our review. The game brings a new character, Atsu, who is already a shinobi and moves and kills like only a true Ronin would.
She has a wide variety of skills that players can unlock along the way and create their own playstyles, be it the path of an honorable warrior or a cunning shinobi. However, often in open world games, players like the freedom with its skill system, and one of the most used mechanics in such titles is a respec system. This system resets, or rather refunds, your spent skill points so you’re able to reassign them as per your need to create your own character build.

Does Ghost of Yotei Allow You to Respec Skills?
The answer is No, you cannot Respec Skills in Ghost of Yotei. In the game, upgrading skills is not a free-flow system, unlike Ghost of Tsushima, where you were able to spend skill points any time to upgrade your skills.
In Ghost of Yotei, players will need to find an Altar of Reflection using maps, or in an enemy stronghold you clear and bow down in front of the altar to upgrade your skill. As you swipe down on your touchpad to bow, your skill menu will open up and you’ll be able to unlock any one perk across a wide menu.
However, you’ll still be able to see your skills in the Growth menu at all times and check what you’ve unlocked so far, so you can plan your next progression from there. While the absence of a free-flow skill system and respec is something that open-world loyalists won’t appreciate, the progression of Atsu’s techniques adds a layer of depth to the story, as you’ll often find a sense of accomplishment as you find these altars to progress along the game.
