It’s no secret that the Milwaukee Bucks are in a state of turmoil right now.
The 1-6 Bucks are going nowhere fast. The Giannis Antetokounmpo-Damian Lillard experiment looks to have failed. Doc Rivers isn’t equipped to make this team a winner right now.
All of this could lead to Giannis requesting a trade, possibly this season, which would result in a flurry of suitors calling Milwaukee. The New York Knicks, Golden State Warriors, and Miami Heat would all take a stab at acquiring the two-time MVP and Finals MVP.
According to a new report from Hoops Habit’s Cal Durrett, however, Milwaukee shouldn’t listen to offers from any of those three teams. Durrett believes there are only two teams capable of sending a worthwhile trade package over to Milwaukee for Giannis: the Brooklyn Nets and the San Antonio Spurs.
“Recent reports have superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo potentially wanting out this season,” Durrett said.
“While there will be plenty of teams interested in him, only two would be worthwhile trade partners for the Bucks.”
“The Nets seem to be in a rebuild after trading Mikal Bridges for five first-round picks over the summer. They also reacquired their own picks back from the Houston Rockets in the hopes of tanking, though it would also be a useful trade chip.”
“Trading some combination of those five picks, as well as the expiring contract of Ben Simmons, might be an attractive trade package. After all, they wouldn’t have to take back any undesirable long-term contracts and save $8 million in salary this season.”
“As for the Spurs, they can offer Jeremy Sochan, Keldon Johnson, and Harrison Barnes, as well as five firsts. That includes the Atlanta Hawks’ 2025 and 2027 unprotected firsts, the Dallas Mavericks’ unprotected 2030 first, the Chicago Bulls’ 2025 top-10 protected first, and the Charlotte Hornets’s lottery protected 2025 first.”
Five first-rounders would be an epic haul for the Bucks as they launch a rebuild.
