The Oklahoma City Thunder are arguably playing the best basketball they’ve ever played. Not only do they hold the best record in the NBA, but they’re also making history while doing so.

Whether this season turns out to be another one ending in disappointment, or they win their first championship in team history — a huge move could still be coming this offseason.

Former NBA point guard and three-time NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas believes that the Thunder could acquire Milwaukee Bucks star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason.

“The only thing you can do is send Giannis to the only place that can change their franchise a little bit; OKC. I give you Giannis, give me some of those picks and some of that, and come on. The only thing that’s going to build a franchise is trying to get some of them draft picks. No free agents is going to come there,” Arenas said.

For such a trade to happen, the Thunder would have to pair a couple of star players in the deal to make it more enticing for the Bucks. The issue is the Thunder really don’t have enough players to pair with those picks. Clearly, they’d want to keep Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren. While players like Jalen Williams and Isaiah Hartenstein along with some future first-round draft picks aren’t enough for Antetokounmpo.

With their 61st victory of the season coming this weekend, it also marked the Thunder’s 48th win this season taking place by double digits. This year’s Oklahoma City team becomes one of only five teams in league history to win at least 46 games by double digits in a season. It’s hard to imagine that after making history, the Thunder would make such a risky move that depletes the depth on the roster.

The thought of pairing Antetokounmpo alongside Gigeous-Alexander would excite any basketball fan (except the Bucks). The only way Milwaukee moves on from The Greek Freak is if he demands a trade and expresses he no longer wants to remain with the franchise. This proposed deal would be a blockbuster deal if completed but would require a lot of moving pieces to happen.
